Measure toothed belt tension (see previous sections).
Slightly loosen the nut at the tension roller. Do not allow the roller to move along the eccentric yet.
Insert a screwdriver into one of the holes in the camshaft timing belt pulley.
Turn the camshaft pulley slightly to the left so that the toothed belt at the tensioning roller is unloaded.
Now, with a small hammer, carefully hit the tension roller on the left so that it slides slightly to the right and thus tightens the belt. The camshaft timing belt pulley must be held between the hems.
Re-tighten the nut at the tension roller.
Measure belt tension.
Be sure to check the start of the supply of the fuel pump.
When the cover is removed, you can see how the toothed belt is located (1). 2 - camshaft toothed belt pulley: 3 - fuel pump toothed belt pulley; 4 - tension roller: here with a hexagonal adjusting nut; 5 - wedge
This is how the tension of the toothed belt is checked with a special device VW 210. If a value of 12-13 is reached, then the tension is correct.
If the belt pressure has to be adjusted without a special key, then first you should move the pulley slightly to the left with a screwdriver (1) camshaft toothed belt In this way, the toothed belt is unloaded at the tension roller (2). After loosening the nut, you can now lightly hit the tension roller with a hammer and thereby move it slightly to the right, which will create belt tension.
