2. To check up a gear belt for absence of the defects shown on fig. VC 1.062.
VC 1.062:
A. Scratches, transverse fractures, cracks (from the side of the casing)
B. One-sided wear caused by lateral movement
C. Cord separation at the edges
D. Cracks (at the base of the tooth):
- bundle (belt base, cord threads)
- surface cracks (outer layer)
- traces of oil and grease
If defects are found, the toothed belt must be replaced immediately. In this way, a broken belt can be avoided and, as a result, serious engine damage, belt failure and, consequently, malfunctions. Timing belt replacement should be carried out at specialized service stations.
