1. Unfasten the latches of the upper timing belt cover and remove it.

2. Check the timing belt for the following defects:
  • cracks, transverse fractures,
  • stratifications (belt base, cord threads),
  • chipping of the toothed belt base,
  • delamination of cord threads at the edges,
  • traces of oil and grease.

If the above mentioned defects are detected, the timing belt must be replaced immediately. This way, you can avoid belt breakage and, as a result, serious engine damage. The timing belt should be replaced at a specialized service station.

VC 1.063. When checking the condition, pay special attention to the following damage:

A. Cracks (outer layer)
B. One-sided wear caused by lateral displacement
C. Separation of cord threads at the edges
D. Cracks (at the base of the tooth)


The top portion of the timing belt cover must remain removed to check the timing belt tension.
