2. Check the toothed belt for the following defects:
- cracks, transverse fractures,
- bundles (belt warps, cord threads),
- chipping of the base of the toothed belt,
- detachment of cord threads at the edges,
- traces of oil and grease.
If these defects are found, the toothed belt must be replaced immediately. In this way, a broken belt can be avoided and, as a result, serious engine damage. Timing belt replacement should be carried out at specialized service stations.
VC 1.063. When checking the condition, pay particular attention to the following damage:
A. Cracks (outer layer)
B. One-sided wear caused by lateral movement
C. Cord separation at the edges
D. Cracks (at the base of the tooth)
The top part of the toothed belt guard must remain removed to check the toothed belt tension.
