To dismantle the valves, their springs must be compressed. Since the dual valve springs are under high pressure in a diesel engine, we recommend the following tool for this job, which is easy to make. You will need a support from a drilling machine. Next, you need another short tubular part with a diameter slightly smaller than the valve spring support washer. At the lower end, a cutout of such a size is cut out of the tube so that the locking crackers of the valves can be removed with sharp pliers from the inside of the tube. Then the work is done as follows.
Remove cylinder head.
Remove camshaft.
Remove cup pushers.
Lay the cylinder head on the support, and to protect it from scratching, place a soft, clean gasket made of cloth or paper under it.
Use a support to compress the valve springs, laying the tube as an intermediate piece.
If necessary, apply a small blow to the valve spring support washer with a hammer and extension to disengage the retaining lugs.
Have an assistant remove the valve cotters using pliers.
Unload the springs, remove the valve.
Installation is carried out in the reverse order. Damaged seals (valve stem seals) valve stems are replaced first (see next section). Install the cup pushers in accordance with the numbering.
