Replacing valve stem seals (oil seals) (VW Golf 1)

When writing down the progress of the work, we assume that the cylinder head has been removed and the valves have been taken out (see previous section).

The old valve stem seal should be lifted up with pliers or a screwdriver. This should be done patiently and carefully so as not to scratch the cup tappet guides.

Insert the finished lapped valve into the cylinder head.

Mounting sleeve (it comes complete with new rod seals) place on the valve stem. This bushing protects the new seals from damage, which can be damaged by the sharp grooves of the valve stem crackers.

Put on the rod seal. The workshop uses the 10-204 pressing device for this purpose.

The following may be used as auxiliary tools: a suitable socket wrench, a tubular part, etc.
