Remove the cover from the top of the gearbox.
Turn the engine crankshaft by the V-belt pulley nut until the 76 degree mark before TDC and the arrow are opposite each other in the viewing window (see fig.).
For diesel model "Golf" release before November 1978 to disconnect the engine from the gearbox mark 76 degrees in front of OT on the flywheel (2) should be located opposite the arrow in the viewing window of the cap (1) clutch The inspection window is usually closed with a plastic cover.
At the automatic transmission, unscrew the three connecting bolts (torque converter drive disc).
The crankshaft must be rotated further to access all the bolts (1/3 turn respectively).
For all models: Disconnect the engine and gearbox mounting bolts: Remove the protective sheet from the gearbox housing. Disconnect the engine from the gearbox. For automatic transmission, make sure that the torque converter does not slip out of the gearbox housing.
Secure the transformer to the gearbox with wire.
Instruction. If in diesel model "Golf" production before November 1978, a newer sweeping engine or a new flywheel is mounted, then the pin at the gearbox should be unscrewed. When assembling, a new hex bolt with the same washer is used.
