Cranking the engine crankshaft (VW Golf 1)

To perform some work on the engine, the crankshaft must sometimes be turned manually. The easiest way to do this is as follows.

Using a wrench, tighten the central nut of the alternator V-belt pulley; turn the crankshaft.

If the belt slips, hold it with your free hand and tighten it (see picture).

Turning the crankshaft manually a bent spanner is placed on the central nut of the V-belt pulley of the generator If the V-belt slips during rotation, it can be tightened with your free hand (see arrow).
