Remove the crankcase protection. Release the spring clamp and remove the coolant hose "2". Ignore position "1".

Caution: Only tap water may be used for the mixture. Artesian water does not have the required characteristics to ensure the functional qualities of the coolant.

Instructions: For vehicles from model year 2003, only C 12 plus-plus, which complies with TL VW 774 G, may be used as a concentrate. G 12 plus-plus can be mixed with the previous G 12 plus concentrate! Both concentrates have a distinctive feature: they are purple in colour. Additives marked "according to TL W7 774 G" and/or "according to TL VW 774 F" prevent the coolant from freezing and from forming corrosion and scale. In addition, they increase the boiling point of the coolant. Therefore, the cooling system must be operated with an antifreeze and anticorrosive concentrate all year round. Particularly in countries with a tropical climate, with high engine loads, a coolant with an increased boiling point reliably protects the engine during operation. The freezing point of the coolant must be at least -25°C (in countries with an arctic climate - at least -35°C). It is also prohibited to reduce the proportion of concentrate in the coolant during the warm season or when operating in countries with a warm climate by adding water to the cooling system. The proportion of concentrate must be at least 40%. If the freezing temperature must be lowered due to climatic conditions, the proportion of concentrate can be increased, but not more than to 60% (the freezing temperature in this case will be about -40°C). If this limit is exceeded, the freezing temperature will increase again, and, in addition, the heat capacity of the coolant will decrease. When replacing the radiator, heater heat exchanger, cylinder head or cylinder head gasket, reusing the drained coolant is prohibited. Recommended mixture ratios (use only tap water).

The amount of coolant to be added may vary depending on the vehicle configuration.

With coolant filling device -VAS 6096-

Fill with coolant using the cooling system filling device -VAS 6096-

Without coolant filling device -VAS 6096-

Fill the coolant to the max mark on the expansion tank.

With and without coolant filling device -VAS 6096-

Close the expansion tank. Turn off the heater.

Cars without independent heating

Start the engine and maintain the engine speed at 2000 rpm for about 3 minutes. Leave the engine running until the radiator fan "V7" turns on.

Cars with independent heating

Caution: The auxiliary heater may only be switched on if the coolant circuit is filled as described below. Connect the tester -VAS 5051B- as follows. Connect the diagnostic cable connector to the diagnostic socket in the driver's footwell. Start the engine and maintain the engine speed at 2000 rpm for approximately 3 minutes. On the display, press the buttons "Vehicle self-diagnosis", "18 - Additional/auxiliary heater" and "03 - Actuator diagnosis" in sequence. Press the right-hand arrow button on the display until the actuator diagnosis menu item for the heater coolant shut-off valve "N₂79". Now start the actuator diagnosis process for the heater coolant shut-off valve "N₂79". Then hold the engine speed at 2000 rpm for approximately one minute. Leave the engine running until the radiator fan "V7" turns on.

Continued for all cars

Check the coolant level and top up if necessary. When the engine is warm, the coolant level should be at the max mark, and when the engine is cold, between the min and max marks.
