Checking the injector (VW Passat B4)

Start the engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature. Stop the engine. Disconnect the air supply hose from the central injection unit housing and remove the central injection unit housing cover. Start the engine. Check the jet spray. The jet of atomized fuel should be continuous and clearly visible against the background of the throttle valve. Increase the crankshaft speed to 3000 rpm, then release the accelerator pedal sharply. In this case, the jet of fuel spray should stop for a short time, which corresponds to the forced idle mode. Switch off the ignition. Wipe the injector nozzle dry. The fuel leak through the injector nozzle should not exceed two drops per minute.

If deviations from the above requirements are detected, replace the injector. Disconnect connector 2 from connector 1 of the central injection unit (Fig. 2-62). Measure the resistance between the middle terminals "2" and "3" of connector 1. The resistance of the injector electromagnetic valve winding at a temperature of 15-30°C should be within 1.2-1.6 Ohm.



If the resistance does not match the required values, replace the injector. Connect the LED indicator lamp to the middle terminals "2" and "3" of connector 2 of the central injection unit and turn on the starter. The LED lamp should blink. If the LED does not blink, check the ballast resistor of the injector as indicated below.
