Checking the idle speed control valve (VW Passat B4)

Disconnect the idle speed control valve connector (Fig. 2-57).

Connect an ohmmeter to terminals "1" and "2" of the regulator block. The resistance should be within 4-200 Ohms. Connect an ohmmeter to terminals "3" and "4" of the regulator block: the resistance should be 0.5 Ohms with the throttle valve open and equal to infinity with the valve closed. If the resistance does not match the specified values, replace the idle speed controller.
