Checking the coolant temperature sensor (VW Passat B4)

Disconnect the sensor connector (blue color) (Fig. 2-61), connect the ohmmeter to the terminals of the sensor block and check that the ohmmeter readings correspond to the following values:

• 0°C: 4.8-6.2 kOhm;
• 20°C: 2-3 kOhm;
• 30°C: 1.6-2.0 kOhm;
• 50°C: 700-900 Ohm;
• 80°C: 300-400 Ohm;
• 100°C: 175-225 Ohm.

The resistance of the sensor can be checked after removing it and immersing it in a vessel filled with coolant at the required temperature.
