Place the rear of the car on stands and remove the rear suspension beam. Remove the mounting brackets from the desired side. Use a puller to press the silent blocks out of the beam.

Do not press out silent blocks using hammer blows, as this may damage the surface of the mounting sockets in the suspension beam.

Using a clamp-type device, press in the new silent blocks until they stop so that the rubber-metal segment of the inner silent block faces the front of the vehicle, and the rubber-metal segment of the outer silent block faces the rear of the vehicle.

Install the beam mounting bracket, tighten the mounting bolt and tighten it to a torque of 7 kgf·m. Before tightening the bolt, make sure that the mating surface of the bracket with the body is at an angle of 13°30'±1° relative to the suspension beam. Install the suspension beam, install the mounting bolts for the lower ends of the shock absorbers, lower the car, tighten the mounting bolts for the lower ends of the shock absorbers to a torque of 10.5 kgf·m and check the installation angles of the rear wheels.

The rear wheel alignment angles on a loaded vehicle, with normal tire pressure, and without excessive play in the rear suspension units, should have the following values:
  • camber: -1°40'±20';
  • maximum permissible difference in camber angle between right and left wheel: 30';
  • toe-in: 25'±15'.

On vehicles starting with chassis no. 31 LE 222 111 and 31 LB 108 393, the rear wheel alignment angles have the following values:

(The information is posted on this resource: vwmanual.ru)

  • camber: 1°30'±10';
  • maximum permissible difference in camber angle between right and left wheel: 20';
  • toe-in: +20'±10';
  • maximum permissible deviation from the wheel rolling path: 20'.

Rear wheel alignment angles are not adjustable. If the value of one of the alignment angles does not match, replace the corresponding rear suspension unit. Rear wheel alignment angles are checked on a vehicle in running order. Before checking, make sure that the dimensions, degree of wear of the tires and the pressure in them are the same for both wheels, that the silent blocks of the rear suspension have no play. Eliminate the end runout of the wheel rims.

The angles are checked on a stand for checking the front wheel alignment angles.
