Pepper checking and adjusting the wheel alignment is necessary:
- install the car in running order on a flat area;
- make sure that the dimensions, degree of tire wear and pressure in them are the same for both wheels;
- make sure that the rubber mounts of the front suspension are in good condition, that there are no large backlashes of ball joints and bearings;
- if necessary, eliminate the end runout of the wheel rims.
The camber angles are adjusted by replacing the bolts securing the telescopic strut to the steering knuckle with bolts of a smaller diameter.
Verify that the camber misalignment is not due to damage to any part of the front suspension.
Replace the 12mm telescopic strut top bolt with a 11mm VAG bolt. Adjust the camber angle by moving the mounting bolt in the holes of the strut and knuckle, which provides a change in the camber angle by about 1°. If it was not possible to obtain the desired camber angle by replacing the upper bolt, replace the lower mounting bolt and repeat the adjustment. To adjust the toe-in of the front wheels, set the steering wheel to the straight-ahead position of the vehicle. check and, if necessary, adjust the wheel alignment.
Loosen the right tie rod locknut (pic. 5-4) and by rotating the steering rod, achieve the desired value of the angle of convergence, making sure that the protective cover of the ball joint is not twisted.
Do not adjust the release using the left tie rod, as the dimension a = 395 mm must remain constant (pic. 6-7).
