Front wheel hubs (VW Passat B4)

To replace the front wheel hub bearing, lift the front of the vehicle, place it on stands and remove the front wheel from the desired side. Loosen the hub nut (Fig. 5-5). Remove the steering knuckle. Remove the brake disc and caliper. Press the wheel hub out of the steering knuckle. Remove the inner and outer hub bearing retaining rings and press out the bearing. Before pressing in the new bearing, replace the outer retaining ring. Using a press and mandrels of the correct size, press in the new hub bearing. Install the hub in the reverse order of removal.
