Installing the plug on the front end of the cylinder head
Warning: The cylinder head supplied as a spare part is universal and can be installed on both the right and left sections of the engine block. When installing a new cylinder head, a plug must be installed on the front end of the head. Lubricate the plug around the perimeter with VW-AMV1880002 sealant and press the plug so that it is flush with the front end of the cylinder head, see fig. Installing the plug on the front end of the cylinder head.
1. Unscrew a fuel hose from a fuel highway and remove a fuel highway together with fuel atomizers.
2. Remove the ignition coil together with the bracket.
3. Unscrew the intake manifold from the cylinder head.
4. Unscrew from a head of the block of cylinders the pipeline of giving of a cooling liquid.

The sequence of tightening the bolts of the cylinder head on the engine 2.8 l
1. Unscrew the secondary air supply valve and the intake manifold channel switch bracket from the cylinder head.
2. On the left head of the block of cylinders unscrew the bottom casing of a gear belt.
3. In the reverse order shown in Fig. The tightening sequence of the cylinder head bolts on the 2.8L engine, unscrew the cylinder head bolts half a turn in the first pass and then unscrew the bolts completely.
Warning: On later models, head profile bolts are used to mount the cylinder head "Polydrive". To unscrew such bolts, it is necessary to use special wrenches, for example, VW3452.
4. Using a straightedge and a feeler blade, check the flatness of the bottom surface of the cylinder head. Deviations from flatness should not exceed 0.05 mm. If the cylinder head has been resurfaced, its height must be at least 139.2 mm.
Warning: When installing the cylinder head, a new gasket must be used. Remove the gasket from its sealed package just before installing it on the cylinder block.
5. Check that the new cylinder head gasket is the same type as the original and that the TOP or OBEN·markings are facing up.
6. Install the cylinder head on the guide pins of the cylinder block.
7. Insert the bolts into the cylinder head and hand tighten at this stage.
8. Gradually and sequentially tighten all the cylinder head bolts to the required torque and in several stages in the sequence shown in fig. The sequence of tightening the cylinder head bolts on a 2.8 liter engine.
9. Before installing the cylinder head cover seal, apply a layer of sealant VW D 454 300 A3 to the junction of the bearing caps with the cylinder head.
