The cylinder head can be removed with the engine installed, and this operation is described below in general terms. If the engine has already been removed, then all preparatory work has already been carried out.
Caution! Do not remove the cylinder head when the engine temperature is higher than 40°C.
Disconnect the ground wire terminal from the battery.
Drain the coolant from the cooling system (p. 19.1.1).
Disconnect the coolant hoses from the cylinder head.
Disconnect all electrical connections on the cylinder head.
Remove the air filter:
Fig. 390. To remove the air filter, disconnect: 1 - hose going to the vacuum regulator of the EGR system; 2 - mass air flow sensor; 3 - air intake; 4 - inlet hose
- disconnect hose 1 (Fig. 390) from the air filter housing, which goes to the vacuum regulator of the EGR system;
- disconnect the connector of the mass air flow sensor 2;
- disconnect the air intake hose 3;
- release the three spring clamps securing the air filter cover;
- disconnect the inlet hose 4 from the front of the vehicle and remove it from the air filter housing.
Fig. 391. Removing the engine cover: 1 - air supply hose; 2 - plug
Remove the engine cover and disconnect the air supply hose. Remove plug 2 (Fig. 391) and the spring clip. Press the cover in the direction of the arrow and disconnect air supply hose 1 from the intake manifold.
Fig. 392. Removing the cylinder head cover: 1 - hose; 2 - safety caps; 3 - spring clamp
Remove the cylinder head cover (the crankcase ventilation housing remains on the cylinder head). Disconnect hose 1 (Fig. 392) from the cylinder block cover, loosen spring clamp 3 of the inlet hose and disconnect the hose. Remove protective caps 2 (two are shown by arrows) and unscrew the three nuts located underneath them. Remove the cylinder head cover.
To remove the engine, lift the engine, remove the front hydraulic engine mount, engine mount clamp and remove the toothed belt. To do this, secure the engine with sling loops and lift it using a lift so as to relieve the engine mount. Unscrew the engine mount from the hydraulic mount (2 bolts) and from the engine mount clamp (3 bolts). Make sure the engine is securely fastened in a hanging position.
Raise the front of the vehicle and remove the engine guard. Disconnect the power steering pump line bracket (1 bolt).

Unscrew the engine mount clamp from the front of the engine (Fig. 393). After unscrewing the bolts, immediately lower the car onto the wheels.
Remove the poly V-belt and the upper timing belt cover.
Remove the timing belt as described in the relevant section.
Disconnect all injection system pipes that are connected to the pipes attached to the body and plug them.
Disconnect the exhaust pipe from the turbocharger.
Disconnect the oil line going to the turbocharger.
Remove or bend aside the cold start rod.
Fig. 382. The order of unscrewing the cylinder head bolts. When installing the cylinder head, tighten the bolts in the reverse order
In the order specified earlier (Fig. 382), unscrew the cylinder head mounting bolts with a hex key, remove the bolts and remove the cylinder head. Remove the cylinder head gasket.
