Diesel engine — general information (VW Sharan 1)

The vehicle is equipped with a 4-cylinder diesel engine with a working volume of 1.9 liters with direct fuel injection and turbocharging. The intake air compressed by the turbocharger is cooled by a charge air radiator located under the radiator of the engine cooling system. The engine output is 66 kW (90 hp) at a crankshaft speed of 4000 min⁻¹, the maximum torque is 202 N·m at 1900 min⁻¹.

The engine crankshaft has five bearings. The engine camshaft and high-pressure fuel pump are driven by a toothed belt. The auxiliary units are driven by a poly-V belt. The engine has hydraulic valve tappets, which eliminates the procedure for adjusting the valve clearances. The engine is mounted on two hydraulic supports.
