- oil filling adapter, eg VW-VAS-6262;
- transmission oil collection container;
- appropriate instrument for measuring transmission oil temperature;
- garage lift or inspection pit.
Materials required:
- approx. 5.5 l of transmission oil for these gearboxes according to VW specification;
- sealing rings for drain and inspection hole plugs.
Replacing the oil filter
1. Move the gearshift lever to position P.
The temperature of the oil in the gearbox before starting work should not exceed +50°C.
2. Turn off the engine.
3. Unscrew the filter and, before removing it, tilt it back onto its seat so that the oil flows from the filter into the box (see arrow in illustration).
4. Insert the new filter with the tab facing down (see arrow in illustration) and tighten it with a torque of 20 Nm.
Draining transmission oil
Warning! Jacking up a vehicle and placing it on jack stands is associated with danger. Therefore, it is recommended that you familiarize yourself with the safety measures set out in Chapter "Jacking up a car".
5. Place the vehicle horizontally on jack stands or in an inspection pit.
6. Remove the mudguard (lower protection) engine.
7. Place a container under the vehicle to collect any leaking transmission fluid.
8. Unscrew the drain plug A and drain the oil from the gearbox. Its volume is approximately 5 liters (see illustration).
Caution! Do not confuse drain plug A with check plug B. Plug B is located near the suspension support (see illustration 18.8).
9. Cut the sealing ring on the plug, remove it and replace it with a new one (see arrow in illustration).
Filling transmission oil
10. Unscrew the plug from the oil level inspection hole in the gearbox (see illustration 18.9).
Attention! This hole contains a black plastic bypass tube. The length of this tube sets the oil level in the gearbox. The bypass tube has an 8 mm internal hexagon, which is used to tighten it with a force of 3 Nm.
11. Screw adapter 1 from the VAS-6262-A- device into the inspection hole by hand and connect the supply hose with the latch 2 to the adapter (see illustration).
12. Fill in 5.5 liters of transmission oil for DSG boxes through the hose.
Attention! Before opening the container with new oil, shake it. If the oil is poured from several containers, then before filling the missing amount of oil from the new container, close the rotary valve 3 or hold the filling hose above the gearbox (see illustration 18.11).
13. Start the engine and let it idle.
14. Press the brake pedal and move the gearshift lever through all positions in turn, holding it in each position for about three seconds. Then return the gearshift lever to position P.
15. Leave the engine idling until the transmission oil warms up to a temperature of +35°...45°C.
16. Make sure there is a container under the gearbox to collect any leaking oil.
17. After the transmission oil in the gearbox has heated up to a temperature of +35°...45°C, disconnect the oil filling hose from the adapter of the VAS 6262 device by unscrewing clamp 2.
Do not turn off the engine. Let the excess oil drain (see illustration 18.11).
After the excess oil has drained and only drops are coming out of the hole, unscrew the adapter, put a new sealing ring on the inspection hole plug, screw it in and tighten it with a force of 45 Nm.
18. Turn off the engine.
Attention! Recently filled oil that has leaked out cannot be reused.
19. Replace the lower engine guard and lower the vehicle onto its wheels if it was raised.
