- adapter for oil filling, for example, VW-VAS-6262;
- container for collecting transmission oil;
- an appropriate instrument for measuring the temperature of the transmission oil;
- garage lift or viewing hole.
Necessary materials:
- about 5.5 liters of transmission oil for these transmissions according to VW specification;
- sealing rings for plugs of drain and control openings.
Oil filter replacement
1. Move the transmission control lever to position P.
The temperature of the oil in the gearbox before starting work must not exceed +50°C.
2. Stop the engine.
3. Unscrew the filter and, before removing it, tilt it onto the seat so that the oil flows out of the filter into the box (see arrow in illustration).
4. Insert the new filter with the tab down (see arrow in illustration) and tighten it with 20 Nm.
Draining gear oil
Attention! Jacking up and jacking up a car is dangerous. Therefore, it is recommended that you familiarize yourself with the safety precautions outlined in chapter «car jacking».
5. Park the vehicle horizontally on jack stands or in a viewing hole.
6. Remove mudguard (bottom protection) engine.
7. Install a container under the car to collect the leaking transmission fluid.
8. Unscrew the drain plug A and drain the oil from the gearbox. Its volume is approximately 5 liters (see illustration).
Attention! Do not confuse plug A of the drain hole with plug B of the control hole. Plug B is located near the suspension mount (see illustration 18.8).
9. Cut the O-ring on the plug, remove it and replace it with a new one (see arrow in illustration).
Gear oil filling
10. Unscrew the plug Wis control hole behind the oil level in the box (see illustration 18.9).
Attention! There is a black plastic bypass tube in this hole. The length of this tube sets the oil level in the gearbox. The bypass tube has an 8 mm hexagon socket, which is used to tighten it with a force of 3 Nm.
11. Screw the adapter 1 from the VAS-6262-A- into the control hole by hand and connect the supply hose with a latch 2 to the adapter (see illustration).
12. Pour 5.5 liters of gear oil for DSG boxes through the hose.
Attention! Shake the container with new oil before opening it. If oil is filled from several containers, then before filling the missing amount of oil from a new container, close the rotary valve 3 or hold the filling hose above the gearbox (see illustration 18.11).
13. Start the engine and leave it to idle.
14. Depress the brake pedal and alternately move the transmission control lever to all positions, holding it in each for about three seconds. After that, return the gearbox control lever to position P.
15. Leave the engine to idle until the gear oil warms up to +35°...45°С.
16. Make sure there is a container under the gearbox to collect the escaping oil.
17. After heating the transmission oil in the box to a temperature of +35°...45°C, disconnect the oil filling hose from the adapter of the VAS 6262 instrument by unscrewing clamp 2.
Do not turn off the engine while doing this. Allow excess oil to drain (see illustration 18.11).
After the excess oil flows out and only drops come out of the hole, unscrew the adapter, put a new sealing ring on the control hole plug, screw it in and tighten it with a force of 45 Nm.
18. Stop the engine.
Attention! Recently leaked oil cannot be reused.
19. Reinstall the lower engine protection and lower the vehicle onto its wheels if it has been lifted.
