To change the oil you will need the following special tool:

  • Special tool for releasing oil filter (oil filter pliers, strap or spanner wrench).
  • Depending on the version, a replaceable 36 mm socket head or a key for releasing the oil filter cover HAZET 2169-36.

If oil is sucked out of the pan:
  • Syringe for sucking oil from the sump. The outer diameter of the connecting hose should not exceed 10 mm.
  • Container for collecting oil.

If the oil drains from the pan:
  • Inspection pit or hydraulic jack with support trestles.
  • A drain container that can hold at least 6 liters of oil.

Necessary consumables/replacement parts:

  • Depending on the engine 3...5 l of engine oil. Use only those approved by VW/SEAT motor oils.
  • Depending on the engine, a replaceable oil filter element or an oil filter assembly.

Note: prefabricated oil filters with replaceable filter element are available for sale.

  • Only when the oil pan is drained: aluminum sealing ring for the drain plug. Sometimes the sealing ring is supplied with the oil filter.

Note: Oil retailers accept the appropriate amount of old oil free of charge, so after purchasing oil, please keep the receipt and canister for later handing in the old oil! In order not to harm the environment, old oil should never be simply drained or thrown away with household waste.

Oil filter assembly with replaceable filter element

Oil filter assembly with replaceable filter element

There are prefabricated oil filters with a replaceable paper filter element on sale. Their advantage is that it is no longer necessary to replace the filter assembly. When changing the oil, only the replaceable filter element is disposed of.

The oil filter consists of a housing -1-, a cover "2" and a replaceable filter element "3". The filter housing is screwed to the engine block-crankcase instead of the previous non-separable filter. Depending on the manufacture, the oil filter housing has a drain hole with a threaded plug "4". Replaceable filter elements from different manufacturers are interchangeable regardless of the filter design.

Oil filters from HENGST are available for sale (in the picture), MANN+HUMMEL, as well as MAHLE/ KNECHT.

(The original information is posted on the website: VWmanual.ru)

Note: The given capacity values are approximate. In any case, the engine oil level must be checked with a dipstick and adjusted if necessary.

Engine oil can be sucked out through the dipstick guide tube or drained from the pan. To suck out the oil, you need a suitable syringe, the hose from which would pass into the dipstick tube and would be of sufficient length.
