To change the engine oil, you will need the following tools:
  • pit or hydraulic jack with stands;
  • special tool for unscrewing the oil filter (oil filter pliers), strap wrench clamp or tool HAIZET2172;
  • end cap for unscrewing the oil drain plug and container (if the oil is not sucked out), which holds at least 6 liters of oil.

The following spare parts are required to replace worn ones:
  • if oil is not sucked out: aluminum or copper sealing ring for oil drain plug (sometimes comes with an oil filter);
  • oil filter element;
  • depending on the engine, 5.0–5.5 l of engine oil. Use only oil approved by VW.

Amount of oil to be replaced (with filter replacement):
  • 4-cylinder petrol and diesel engine: 5.0 l;
  • 5-cylinder petrol and diesel engine: 5.5 l.

The amount of oil between the "min" and "max" marks on the oil level indicator is 1.5 liters. The oil level should be between these marks. Change the oil every 15,000 km, for a diesel engine every 7,500 km. If the car is used very little, change the oil once a year. At the same time, replace the filter oil element.

In severe operating conditions, in the urban cycle, on short distances, frequent cold starts, heavy dustiness: replace engine oil and oil filter more often.

Motor oil can also be sucked out using a probe (at the gas station) through the oil filler neck.

Never pour oil anywhere or into household waste, to avoid environmental pollution, such as contamination of groundwater.
