The coolant level should be checked regularly, approximately every fourth week, at least before a long journey. A low coolant level, on vehicles with the appropriate equipment, is indicated by a constant glow of the control lamp on the instrument panel.

For filling, also in the warm season, use only the mixture of the antifreeze agent VW GH (or other TL-VW 774B specification supplement) and clean water with low lime content.

Total amount of refill (all engines): about 9.0 l.

Attention! To continue driving, you can also, especially in summer, add clean water. Then, without delay, restore the concentration of antifreeze.

1. The coolant level with a cold engine (coolant temperature about 20°C) should be between the MAX and MIN marks on the expansion tank. With a warm engine, the level should be slightly above the MAX mark.

2. Add cold coolant only when the engine is cold to avoid engine damage.

Caution! Open the cap carefully when the engine is hot. Risk of burns! When opening, place a rag around the cap. If possible, open the cap when the coolant temperature is below 90°C.

3. First, unscrew the cap slightly upwards to allow excess pressure to escape. Then turn the cap further and remove it.

4. Check for leaks by visual inspection if the coolant level drops rapidly after a short time.
