Gearbox, final drive. Check the condition and make sure there are no leaks or damage.
Cars with automatic transmission. Check the oil level in the gearbox and add oil if necessary.
Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG). Change the oil and oil filter.
All-wheel drive vehicles (4Motion). Change the oil in the Haldex differential.
Visual inspection for leaks
No special tools required.
Leaks may occur in the following places:
- at the junction between the cylinder block and the gearbox (flywheel seal/gearbox shaft seal);
- at the junction of the gearbox and the front wheel drive axle shafts;
- on the oil filler plug;
- on the threaded drain plug.
To locate leaks, follow these steps:
1. Clean the gearbox housing with cold cleaning agent.
2. Sprinkle lime or talc on suspected oil leak areas.

3. Perform a test drive. Since the engine heats up, the oil becomes more fluid and leaks faster in places where the seal is broken.
The test drive should be approximately 30 km long.
Warning! Jacking up a vehicle or placing it on jack stands is dangerous. Therefore, it is recommended that you familiarize yourself with the safety precautions set out in Chapter "Jacking up a car".
4. Place the car on jack stands.
5. Inspect the gearbox using a flashlight and locate any leaks.
6. Fix any leaks and add oil to the gearbox.
Attention! If necessary, the gearbox oil can be filled with oil through the oil level check hole in the gearbox. To do this, unscrew the plug from the inspection hole on the side of the gearbox near the drive axle shaft. The oil level in the gearbox should be level with the lower edge of the inspection hole. The inspection hole plug tightening torque is 30 Nm if it is a hexagon socket head bolt or 45 Nm if it is a multi-sided socket head bolt.
