
- 1 - upper part of the toothed belt casing;
- 2 - main toothed belt.
Check the condition of the toothed belt. The direction of rotation of the toothed belt should not change. Do not bend the toothed belt;
- 3 - auxiliary toothed belt. The direction of rotation of the auxiliary toothed belt should not change;
- 4 - bolt, 10 Nm + tighten by 90°. New bolts must be used during installation;
- 5 - high-voltage wire casing;
- 6 - camshaft housing. When installing, apply a thin layer of VW-AMV 188 003 sealant to the surface mating with the cylinder head. Install the camshaft housing strictly vertically;
- 7 - bolt, 10 Nm;
- 8 - pin;
- 9 - rocker arm. Before installation, lubricate the working surfaces of the rocker arm;
- 10 - supporting element. With hydraulic adjustment of valve clearances. Install the supporting elements strictly in their places;
- 11 - cylinder head mounting bolt. When installing, use new bolts. Tighten the bolts in the same sequence as on the 1.6-/1.8-I engine;
- 12 - cylinder head;
- 13 - Cylinder head gasket. A new gasket must be used when installing;
- 14 - tension roller of the connecting toothed belt;
- 15 - bolt, 20 Nm;
- 16 - rear timing belt cover;
- 17 - bolt, 20 Nm;
- 18 - eye
Warning: General procedures for removing the cylinder head are given in subsection 2.1.3.3.1this subsection contains only operations related to the 1.4-I engine.
On the 1.4-I engine, the camshafts are installed in a camshaft housing separate from the head.
Execution order
1. Remove both timing belts.

2. Unscrew the exhaust gas direction valve mounting bolt (1) and also the electrical connector bracket mounting bolt (2).
3. Unscrew the rear timing belt cover.
4. Gradually and consistently from the outside inwards, loosen and then unscrew the camshaft housing mounting bolts.
5. Remove the camshaft housing. Remove the rocker arms together with the support element and position them so that they fit into place during assembly.
6. Loosen the clamp and remove the coolant hose from the thermostat housing that goes to the water pump.
