If an English pump is installed in the car - "Lucas-CAV", and the engine is 1.5 liters, no special tool is needed. For the same pump and 1.6 l engine, it is enough to have the VW-3071 adapter and the already mentioned small indicator.
To adjust the start of the pump, you have to be a true professional. The work can only be carried out using the above mentioned special tools!
Firm pump "Bosch"
Press the cold start accelerator button.
The piston in cylinder 1 must be at top dead center (see section "Top dead center search", chapter "Engine and its functioning").
Remove cover from toothed belt.
To adjust the start of delivery of the fuel pump of the company "Bosch" instead of a locking screw, a small indicator is screwed into the pump head (2) with special adapter (1).
Unscrew the locking screw of the fuel pump head between the injection lines.
Instead of a screw, screw in the adapter, fix the indicator and adjust by 2.5 mm (approximately).
Lightly tap the pump housing with a small hammer to bring the centrifugal regulator back to its original position.
Turn the crankshaft slowly counterclockwise until until the indicator needle stops (read about turning the crankshaft in the section "Scrolling the crankshaft of the engine", chapter "Engine and its functioning").
Now set the indicator to "0" with a displacement of about 1 mm.
Rotate the crankshaft clockwise until the mark "FROM" does not match the mark on the case.
Read the indication on the indicator: a value between 0.83 and 0.97 mm is acceptable.
If the allowable value is not reached, it must be adjusted. To do this, unscrew both upper bolts in the bracket and the fixing bolt on the guiding side of the pump, near the stop.
Through one of the holes in the toothed belt pulley, unscrew the third fixing bolt of the pump.
By turning the pump around its own axis, it is now possible to adjust the start of the pump delivery.
When adjusting, it is desirable to strive as accurately as possible to a stroke of 0.90 mm (tolerance±0.02 mm) Fasten the pump again with a torque of 25 Nm.
Remove indicator and adapter. Tighten the locking screw, laying a new sealing ring. The tightening torque is 15 Nm. If there are leaks, additionally tighten with a torque of 25 Nm.
Pump "Lucas-CAV" in a car with a 1.5 liter engine
Remove the cap from the fuel pump inspection hole.
The arrow must align with the drilled mark on the high pressure fuel pump rotor.
English fuel pump adjustment "Lucas-CAV", engine 1.5 l: mark (1) should be next to the arrow (2).
In case this is not the case:
- unscrew the fixing bolts at the pump flange and stop;
- Rotate the fuel pump accordingly and tighten the screws securely again.
Turn the crankshaft two turns in the direction of engine rotation. Reinstall the piston in cylinder 1 at top dead center "FROM".
Check the adjusted delivery start of the pump and correct if necessary.
Install the cover on the inspection hole.
Pump "Lucas-CAV" in a car with a 1.6 liter engine
Check: Fully pull out the cold start accelerator button.
Set the piston of cylinder 1 to top dead center ("FROM").
English pump adjustment "Lucas-CAV", 1.6L engine: the indicator dipstick should fall into the recess when the engine piston is at top dead center
injection system "Lucas-CAV", engine 1.6 l: indicator with adapter (arrow) installed on the pump
Screw the adapter pin into the small indicator and then unscrew it about 1/2 turn.
A small 1/2 turn back of the stud is necessary to prevent the indicator from jamming under unfavorable tolerances.
Screw in the adapter together with the indicator instead of the locking screw with a displacement of approx. 2 mm.
Turn the crankshaft slowly 2-3 cm counterclockwise (against the direction of rotation of the motor).
Rotate the crankshaft slowly in the direction of engine rotation (clockwise), until the arrow on the indicator shows the minimum value (corresponds to the lowest point of the notch of the shim).
Check mark position "FROM". A tolerance of±2 mm is permitted.
Adjustment: set the piston in cylinder 1 to position "FROM".
Loosen both upper bracket mounting bolts and rear stop bolt.
Scrolling the fuel pump, find the lowest point on the indicator; securely fix the fuel pump in this position.
Check the adjustment again.
