Check condition
The performance of the fuel pumps should be normal.
Checking procedure
Unscrew adapter VAG 1318/201 from adapter VAG 1318/20.
Turn the valve on the T-shaped part of the VAG 1318/20 adapter counterclockwise and open it completely (pic. 2.281).
Unscrew the air valve cover.
Now connect a pressure gauge VAG 1318 to the air valve 1, as shown in Figure 2.282, with adapters VAG 1318/20, VAG 1318/201, VAG 1318/9 and a pumping device VAS 5226.
The pressure gauge valve - arrow - must be closed.
Start the engine and let it idle.
Screw the valve on the T-shaped part of the VAG 1318/20 adapter clockwise until it stops against the air valve.
Quickly open and close the pressure gauge valve to release air from the hose to the pressure gauge (pic. 2.283).
Measure fuel pressure. Setpoint: approx. 4.0 bar.
If the specified pressure value is not reached, check the performance of the fuel pumps.
Replace the fuel pressure regulator if necessary.
If the nominal value is reached, turn off the ignition.
Now check the tightness and residual pressure. To do this, follow the pressure drop on the pressure gauge. After 10 minutes, a pressure of at least 3.0 bar must be maintained.
If the residual pressure drops below 3 bar, check the pressure gauge for leaks.
Check fuel pump check valves.
When disconnecting the pressure gauge after the test, turn off the ignition.
Open the tap on the gauge to relieve fuel pressure.
Dismantle the pressure gauge together with the adapters.
Place an additional rag under the joint to absorb escaping fuel.
