The fuel pump start can be checked both with the engine installed and with the engine removed. The check with the engine installed is described here. The check requires a pointer instrument with a corresponding adapter for connection to the pump.

(23-081) Set the 1st cylinder to the top dead center position. To do this, rotate the cardan shaft until the marking on the flywheel matches the lug, the cam pair of the 1st cylinder should be facing up.

The cold start accelerator rod should not be pulled out.

The timing belt tension must be normal.

Unscrew the threaded plug on the fuel pump cover.

Unscrew the threaded plug on the fuel pump cover.

(23-015) Instead of a threaded plug, screw in an adapter together with a small pointer instrument (measurement range 0-30 mm) until the instrument pointer starts moving. Set the instrument to "0" using the setting wheel. Then continue to insert the instrument until the instrument readings become approximately 2.5 mm.

Slowly turn the cardan shaft against the direction of engine rotation (i.e. to the left), until the instrument arrow stops.

Set the device to "0".

Turn the cardan shaft in the direction of engine rotation (to the right) until the marking on the flywheel matches the installation mark. The device should now show a stroke of 0.83-0.97 mm.

Attention! If the instrument readings are within these limits, then no adjustment is required.

If necessary, set the start of the feed.

To adjust, loosen both upper bracket bolts and the rear support mounting bolts.

Caution! Do not loosen the bolts securing the bracket to the engine housing, otherwise coolant may leak out in the case of a 1.7L engine, see "Engine cooling system 1.7 l".

(23-095) unscrew the lower mounting bolt on the bracket through the hole in the fuel pump gear, shown by the arrow.

Set the fuel pump feed start to 0.88-0.92 by re-screwing the pump. This value is valid for diesel and turbodiesel.

Tighten the fuel pump.

Screw the threaded plug onto the pump cover.

Attention! Always replace the threaded plug seal, tightening torque 15 Nm. If there are leaks, tighten, permissible torque 25 Nm.
