Checking the fuel pump (VW Polo 3)

1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery during the test.

2. Turn the crankshaft briefly with the starter. The fuel pump should turn on for about 1 second.

3. If the fuel pump does not turn on, remove the fuel pump relay 12 (fig. 3.25 a). If you cannot remove the relay without a tool, use the necessary tool, but first disconnect the negative cable from the battery.

4. Connect the remote control device VAG 1348/ZA with the additional wire VAG 1348/3-2 to contact 4 and the "+" of the battery.

5. Turn on the VAG 1348/ZA remote control device.

6. The fuel pump is working, check the activation of the fuel pump relay (see wiring diagram).

7. The fuel pump does not work:
  • on a Caddy Van: Remove the carpet on the right side of the trunk, remove the panel on the right side of the trunk, then remove the cover;
  • on Caddy Kombi, Polo Classic, Polo Estate: move rear seats forward, remove floor cover.

9. Connect the VAG 1527 diode tester using the VAG 1594 auxiliary lead to the outer contacts of the wiring connector.

10. Turn on the remote control device. The light should light up. If the light does not light up, check the electrical circuit for a broken wire.

11. The light bulb came on (voltage is normal). Loosen the flange mounting nut using the 3217 wrench. Check the electrical wires between the flange and the fuel pump.

12. If no open circuit is found, replace the fuel pump.
