Check the timing belt tension.

Check the timing belt tension.

(13-597) Turn the cardan shaft until the dead center mark coincides with the tide. At the same time, the valves of the 4th cylinder should overlap. In this position, the 2065 A setting ruler can be inserted into the spline of the camshaft.

Lock the camshaft with a straightedge. The straightedge has a projection that prevents the camshaft from turning. The straightedge should fit into the groove in the shaft.

If the ruler does not fit, turn the shaft until the ruler fits. Balance the ruler as follows:
  • turn the locked shaft so that one end of the ruler rests against the cylinder head. Measure the resulting gap with a template at the other end of the ruler.
  • insert a template with a value reduced by half between the ruler and the cylinder head. Turn the shaft so that the ruler lies on the template. Insert a second template with the same value at the other end between the ruler and the cylinder head.
  • remove the timing belt cover.
  • loosen the camshaft wheel mounting bolts by 1/2 turn. Use a rubber hammer to separate the wheel from the camshaft cone.

(02-186) Turn the fuel pump gear so that the markings on the gear and bracket match each other, shown by the black arrow.

Lock the fuel pump gear with a mandrel. Turn the propeller shaft until the mark on the flywheel aligns with the lug, see Fig. 13-597.

Remove the mandrel.

Tighten the timing belt, see. "Removal and installation the timing belt".

Tighten the camshaft wheel mounting bolts to 45 Nm.
