Digifant ignition system
Attention: If during the test the adjustment of the knock sensor was changed, the engine must then be turned off. Then start the engine again to check the adjustment results.
To get the job done, a stroboscope is required that shows the deviation of the ignition timing at different engine speeds.
Examination
Check temperature sensor, see chapter «Petrol injection system».
Connect the stroboscope according to the instructions.
Start the engine and let it idle.
Set the motor shaft speed to 2300 1/min. The ignition advance must correspond to the prescribed value, see table.
Connect the plug to the temperature sensor.
Check ignition timing again at 2300 rpm. Compared to the previous value, the ignition advance should be 30°±3°. If the ignition advance is only 20°±3°, then the knock sensor or wiring is faulty.
Stop the engine. Check knock sensor tightening torque. To do this, release the sensor and tighten with a torque wrench to 20 Nm. The value of the tightening torque of the knock sensor is very important for its proper functioning, therefore the specified value must be observed.
Start the engine and repeat the test.
Other checks on the Digifant ignition system require additional measuring instruments and must therefore be carried out in a workshop.
