Gas traction — removal and installation (VW Golf 1)

The linkage that connects the accelerator pedal to the fuel pump bends very easily. A heavy accelerator pedal stroke is a clear signal warning of a malfunction. You will soon see that the linkage is broken. When installing a new linkage, handle it very carefully.

Unscrew 2 fuel pump support nuts; detach the guide.

On newer models, remove the safety catch at the cable sheath attachment point.

In the passenger compartment, remove the cover under the instrument panel or the glove compartment (see section "Removal drawers and lids", chapter "Salon").

Near the accelerator pedal, disconnect the bracket at the bent end of the gas rod.

Pull the gas rod eyes out of the guide at the accelerator pedal lever.

Push the rubber bushing from the bulkhead from the engine compartment into the car's interior.

Remove the gas rod.

When you insert the rubber bushing of the new rod into the partition, make sure that the rod is not bent.
