Starter/traction relay wiring diagram

If the traction relay "1" is defective, the starter gear "2" does not extend to the flywheel ring gear and the starter cannot turn the engine crankshaft.

Check in installed state

Prerequisite for checking: the battery is fully charged.

Turn off the ignition.

Turn off the gear, put the gear shift lever in neutral position, and accordingly put the automatic transmission mode selection lever in position P.

Raise the car onto the trestles and remove the lower engine compartment cover.

To check, connect an auxiliary wire, for example, a starting wire, to terminal 50 of the traction relay (thin wire to the ignition switch).

Briefly connect the other end of the auxiliary wire to terminal 30 (thick positive wire, goes to the battery).

In this case, the starter gear should quickly be thrown forward. If this is not the case, then replace the traction relay.

Checking in the removed state

Prerequisite for checking: the battery is fully charged.

Remove the starter, see previous chapter.

Using a jumper cable, connect the starter housing to the negative pole (-) of the battery.

Connect the second jumper cable to the positive terminal (+) of the battery.

Briefly connect the other end of the second auxiliary wire to terminal 50 of the traction relay.

In this case, the starter gear should quickly be thrown forward. If this is not the case, then replace the traction relay.
