Starter Magnetic Relay — Removal, Checking and Installation (VW Transporter T4)

If the magnetic relay is faulty, the starter gear is not ejected and the engine does not start.

Examination

1. Remove the starter.

2. Connect to terminal 50 (thick cable connection) starter with the help of additional wires, the battery voltage is 12 V.

3. Using an additional cable, connect terminals 50 and 30 of the starter. The starter pinion should be thrown forward.

Removal

Unscrew the 3 screws securing the magnetic relay from the drive housing and remove the relay.

Installation

1. Screw the relay to the starter; seal the separating groove (F) on the BOSCH starter with a suitable sealant.

2. Screw on the magnetic relay wire.

3. Check the starter.

4. Install the starter.
