A second generator can be installed instead of the air conditioning compressor.

Removal

1. Turn off the ignition.

2. Disconnect the ground (-) cable from the battery.

Attention! After disconnecting the battery, the memory of the radio and electronic control units is erased. If the radio is coded, remember the radio code before disconnecting the battery. Without the code, after connecting the battery, the radio will not work.

3. If equipped, disconnect the air hose from the rear of the generator.

3. If equipped, disconnect the air hose from the rear of the generator.

4. Remove the protective cap, disconnect the thick wire (B) and the thin wire (D) (see fig. Generator connection diagram) from contacts (1) and (2).

5. 4-cylinder petrol engine: Loosen the screws from the alternator bracket. To do this, insert a 6 mm Allen key from the front, into the hole in the timing belt guard and unscrew the screws.

6. 5-cylinder engines and 4-cylinder diesel engine: Loosen the screws on the generator bracket.

7. Loosen and remove the V-belt.

9. Belt drive without tension roller: press the generator down using the VW-3297 lever or a crowbar, loosen the toothed V-belt and remove it from the generator belt pulley.

Attention! The bracket screws (1, 2) must be loosened by at least 1 turn.

10. Remove the generator bracket screws and remove the generator.

Installation

1. Install the generator, screw it to the bracket, but do not tighten it.

2. If present, install the tension screw.

3. Check the wear of the V-belt (see Fig. Location of the V-belt of a 4-cylinder engine), replace if necessary.

4. Place and tighten the V-belt on the generator pulley.

5. Tighten the bracket tensioning screws. Tightening torques: up to 9/92 – 35 Nm. Bracket screws: for 4-cylinder diesel engine: 50 Nm. From 10/92 – 25 Nm.

6. Connect the electrical wiring to the generator.

7. Connect the ground (-) cable to the battery.

Caution! Connect the battery only when the ignition is off, otherwise the injection system control unit will fail.

8. Set the time on the clock.

9. Enter the anti-theft code into the radio.
