2. Check if the starter ejects the gear when the battery is fully charged.
3. Set the transmission to neutral position, turn off the ignition.
4. With wire (cross section not less than 4 mm2) connect terminals 30 and 50 of the starter.
5. If the starter works properly, then the fault is in the wire to the starter. If the starter does not work, then it must be removed and checked. Test condition: wire connections must be reliable and not oxidized.
Cause | Elimination Method |
Starter does not rotate when ignition is turned on
Discharged battery | Charge the battery |
Connect terminals 30 and 50: the starter works. Break in wire 50 to the ignition switch, the ignition switch is faulty | Eliminate break. Replace defective parts |
Cable break or poor ground connection. The battery is empty | Check battery cable and connections. Measure battery voltage, charge if necessary |
Insufficient current strength due to loose contacts or oxidation | Clean the poles and battery terminals. Restore the reliability of the connections between the battery, starter and ground |
No voltage at terminal 50 (magnetic relay) | Wire break. Faulty ignition switch |
The starter turns too slowly and does not crank the engine
The battery is empty | Charge the battery |
The engine is filled with non-winter or non-all-weather oil (winter) | Change oil |
Insufficient current conduction due to loose contacts or oxidation | Clean the poles and starter connection terminals. Tighten connections |
Graphite brushes do not adhere to the commutator, are stuck in the guides, are worn, broken, oily or dirty | Check, clean or replace graphite brushes. Check guides |
Insufficient distance between commutator and graphite brushes | Replace graphite brushes and clean their guides |
Furrows on the collector, soot or dirt | Turn the collector or replace the anchor |
No voltage at terminal 50 (at least 8V) | Check the ignition switch or magnetic relay |
Broken bearing | Check and replace bearing if necessary |
Defective magnetic relay | Replace relay |
Starter engages and rotates, engine does not rotate or rotates intermittently
Defective gear drive | Replace gear drive |
Gear dirty | clean gear |
Flywheel ring gear defective | Machine the ring gear, if necessary, replace the flywheel |
Gear drive not working | |
Gear drive dirty. Worm thread dirty or defective | Clean drive, replace if necessary |
Defective magnetic relay | Replace magnetic relay |
Weak or broken return spring | Replace return spring |
The starter continues to rotate after the ignition is turned off
Magnetic relay switch stuck, won't turn off | Switch off the ignition immediately. Replace magnetic relay |
Ignition switch won't turn off | Disconnect the battery immediately. Replace ignition switch |
