Possible malfunctions, their causes and methods of elimination
Cause of malfunction | Elimination Method
When the ignition is turned on, the control lamp of the AB discharge does not light up
1. AB is discharged. | 1. Start the engine using the auxiliary starter wires using the method «smoking» or towing.
2. The control lamp burned out. | 2. Replace burned out lamp.
3. The fastening of the wires on the battery has loosened or the corresponding terminals have oxidized. | 3. Tighten the wire fasteners. Check the connections, if necessary, clean the terminals and terminals of the battery.
4. The electrical circuit between the ignition switch, the AB discharge control lamp and the generator is broken. | 4. Contact a workshop.
5. Blown fuse in the mounting block. | 5. Replace the fuse.
6. Defective carbon brushes or voltage regulator. | 6. Replace carbon brushes and voltage regulator.
The control lamp burns at work of the engine
1. Alternator drive belt slippage | 1. Adjust belt tension.
2. Open or short circuit in the supply diodes of the field winding. | 2. Replace damaged diodes.
3. Damaged voltage regulator. | 3. Replace voltage regulator.
4. Open in one or more generator valves. | 4. Replace the rectifier unit.
5. An open or interturn short circuit in the stator winding, shorting it to «mass». | 5. Replace generator stator.
6. Short circuit on «mass» generator excitation winding leads. | 6. Replace generator rotor.
Increased generator noise
1. The alternator pulley nut is loose. | 1. Tighten the nut.
2. Damaged alternator bearings. | 2. Replace bearings.
3. Interturn short circuit or short circuit to «mass» stator windings. | 3. Replace stator.
4. Short circuit in one of the generator valves. | 4. Replace the rectifier unit.
5. Squeaky brushes. | 5. Wipe the brushes and slip rings with a cotton cloth soaked in gasoline. |
