Removal boxes and lids (manufactured before July 1980) (VW Golf 1)

In the following we will talk about the parts located under the instrument panel. The Golf model, produced before July 1980, has an outdated instrument panel design.

Golf models produced after August 1980 and Jetta have new instrument panel designs.



Instrument panel cover from below: pull out the two locking buttons.

Remove the plastic clip from the locking pin near the pedal post.

Glove box on the right: remove one screw at a time (phillips head) closer to the middle of the car and to the engine compartment.

On the right (in the direction of movement) press the pin on the locking clamp from the bottom up: remove the clamp.

Pull out the drawer, turning it slightly to the side so that the drawer's locking protrusion can come out of the heater housing.

Remove the glove compartment on the right.

At the bottom near the glove compartment, unscrew the 3 Phillips-head screws.

Open the cover. Unscrew one screw on the right and one on the left, as well as the locking screw of the locking stop.



At the front, near the glove compartment, closer to the engine compartment, disconnect the lock nut: pull out the glove compartment.

Middle console: at the edge of the console, closer to the handbrake lever, unscrew the Phillips-head screw.

In the small storage box at the top of the console, unscrew the other two screws.

Unscrew the shift lever button.

Carefully pull the shift lever boot out of the console.

Pull the middle console upwards.
