On the rear wheels, the described machines have the so-called drum brakes. Inside the brake drums there are two hemispherical shoes, mounted at the bottom on fixed axles, at the top between the shoes there is a brake cylinder that pushes both shoes apart and presses them against the brake drum.
When the brake is applied, one of the shoes, depending on the direction of rotation of the wheel, is tightened and pressed against the drum. This achieves an increase in the braking effect. The clearance between the shoes and the drum in models manufactured before August 1978 is adjusted by turning the adjusting nut. In models released later, the gap adjustment occurs automatically.
