Press the brake pedal by hand.
The free play should be a maximum of 1/3 of the total pedal travel.
If a model made after August 1978 has a longer pedal travel, the rear pads are worn and should be replaced.
In older vehicles, drum brakes can be further adjusted. as indicated in the next section.
Too long pedal travel can also be caused by pinched brake pads or a rusted spacer bar.
