Checking the thickness of the friction linings of drum brakes (VW Beetle)

Raise the front of the vehicle and place it on supports.



Remove the rubber plugs from the brake shield (see arrow), shine a flashlight into the resulting holes and check the thickness of the friction linings. The wear limit is 2.5 mm.

Replace the rubber plugs and lower the vehicle.
