Removing
Remove brake drum.
Using pliers, press the pressure spring, grab the pin from behind and turn so that it can be removed.
Using pliers, remove the left brake shoe spring and remove the shoe by hand.
On vehicles with strut front suspension: remove the 3 brake shoe springs (see below picture "Details of front suspension brakes on shock absorber struts").
Installation
Attention! Brake pads are available in different thicknesses. The nominal thickness of the pads used in the described vehicles is 3.8-4.0 mm. If the brake drum has been bored, it is necessary to install pads of increased thickness (4.3-4.5 mm).
Attention! Brake pads are replaced, usually all on the same axle (front or back). For safety reasons, only pads of the same type should be used.
Clean the threads on the adjusting nuts and bolts, lightly lubricate them.
Move the brake lip on the brake piston and check the wheel brake cylinder for leaks, replace the cylinder if necessary.
Attach the brake shoe spring to both shoes and install them.
Insert the pins from behind, install the pressure spring and the plate, turning the latter so that the pin locks.
Install the second brake pad spring with pliers.
On vehicles with strut front suspension: install 3 brake shoe springs (see below picture "Details of front suspension brakes on shock absorber struts").
Install the brake pads completely.
Install the brake drum and adjust the play of the wheel bearings (see section "Checking and adjusting wheel bearing play").
Adjust brake pads (see above section "Drum brake adjustment").
Install the wheel, lower the vehicle and tighten the wheel bolts to 130 Nm (13 kgcm).
Attention! If the brake hose was disconnected from the wheel brake cylinder, bleed the brake system (see section "Bleeding the brake system").
Attention! Brake pads are replaced, usually all on the same axle (front or back). For safety reasons, only pads of the same type should be used.
