The thickness of the disc brake friction linings can be checked with the wheel installed using a special device VW 136. If this device is not available, proceed as follows.

Loosen the wheel nuts, raise the front of the car and place it on supports.

Remove the wheel.

Shine a flashlight on the brake caliper and visually assess the thickness of the friction linings. If it is approximately 2 mm, then the wear limit has been reached. For a more accurate check, you need to remove the linings. Note: Experience shows that 1 mm of friction lining wear corresponds to approximately 1000 km of mileage. However, this applies to unfavorable brake operating conditions; under normal conditions, linings last longer. Thus, with a lining thickness of 5 mm, they will last at least another 3,000 km.

Install the wheel, lower the vehicle and tighten the wheel mounting bolts to 130 Nm (13 kgfm).
