Checking and adjusting the play of wheel hub bearings (VW Beetle)

Raise the front of the vehicle and place it on supports, use a puller or rubber hammer to remove the wheel hub cap.

Loosen the lock bolt on the hub nut. To install, tighten the clamping nut while rotating the wheel by hand to prevent the bearing from seizing.




The wheel hub bearing play is set correctly if the pressure plate can still move when you press the screwdriver with your finger.

Caution! Do not use any pushing, rotating, or levering movements with the screwdriver.

Tighten the lock bolt on the hub nut to 13 Nm (1.3 kgfm).

Secure the wheel hub cap, push the tachometer cable into the left side and secure with the retaining ring.
