Air from the brake system is removed by pumping the system with the brake pedal. An assistant is needed to perform the pumping procedure.
When handling brake fluid, remember the following:
- brake fluid is poisonous and corrosive.,It must not come into contact with the body;
- brake fluid is hygroscopic, i.e. absorbs moisture from the air. Therefore, you need to store the liquid only in an airtight container;
- Brake fluid that has already been used in the brake system must not be refilled. When bleeding the brake system, you must also use only fresh fluid;
- Brake fluid must be changed every 2 years.
If air needs to be removed from the entire brake system, then it is necessary to bleed each of the wheel brake cylinders separately. If only one brake cylinder is being repaired or replaced, it is enough to remove the air from it only.
The pumping sequence is as follows:
- rear right wheel brake cylinder;
- rear left wheel brake cylinder;
- front right wheel brake cylinder;
- front left wheel brake cylinder.
Pumping
Remove the dust cap from the brake cylinder air release valve, connect a clean transparent tube to the valve, insert the other end into a bottle half filled with brake fluid, so that the end of the tube is below the fluid level.
Instruct an assistant to depress the brake pedal until strong resistance is felt. After that, squeeze the pedal to failure and hold with your foot, without releasing.
Loosen the bleed valve on the brake cylinder with a wrench by about half a turn. Make sure that the end of the tube in the bottle is constantly below the liquid level.
As soon as the fluid pressure drops, immediately tighten the valve.
Repeat the bleeding process until there are no more air bubbles in the brake fluid flowing into the bottle.
After bleeding, disconnect the tube from the air release valve and put a dust cap on the valve.
Bleed the remaining wheel brake cylinders.
Attention! While bleeding, check the brake fluid level in the expansion tank. The level must not drop too low, otherwise air can enter the system through the tank. If the level is too low, top up with fresh brake fluid.
After removing air from the brake system, fill the expansion tank with brake fluid to the level "max".
