Replacement of brake pads
Brake pads must only be replaced in pairs simultaneously on both wheels with pads of the specified brand.
For removal (pic. 7-14 and 7-15) Raise the back of the car often, place it on stands and remove the rear wheels. Remove the brake drum as shown below. Use pliers to remove the lock washers with guide springs.

Remove the brake pads from the lower support by hand. Remove the lower return spring. Disconnect the parking brake cable from the lever.
Using pliers, disconnect the tension spring from the bar of the mechanism for automatically adjusting the gap between the shoes and the drum and the return spring. Remove pads from drum. Clamp the expansion bar assembly with brake pads in a vise and disconnect the pressure spring.
When removing the pads, hold the wheel cylinder pistons in place with special pliers or wire. To install, attach the pressure spring and install the brake shoe on the expansion bar. Install the bar of the mechanism for automatic adjustment of the gap between the shoes and the drum with a protrusion towards the brake shield. Install the brake shoe with the parking brake lever on the expanding bar. Attach the top return spring. Connect the parking brake cable to the lever. Install the ends of the brake shoes on the pistons of the wheel cylinder. Attach the lower return spring. Install the brake pads in the lower support. Attach the spring to the automatic clearance adjustment bar. Install spring guides with lock washers. Install the brake drum and adjust the clearance in the hub bearings, as indicated in the section «Rear suspension» Press the brake pedal once to failure to install the brake pads in the working position.
Removal and installation of brake drums
Brake drums must only be replaced in pairs. Raise the rear of the vehicle, put it on stands and remove the rear wheels. Using a screwdriver, threaded through the hole for the wheel bolt, press up the bar of the mechanism for automatically adjusting the gap between the pads and the drum. Remove hub cap. Remove the cotter pin and toothed stopper of the hub nut. Loosen the hub nut and remove the washer. Remove the wheel bearing inner race. Remove brake drum. The installation of the brake drum is carried out in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following:
- before installing the drum, put universal grease in the hub:
- adjust the clearance as indicated in section ««Rear suspension» and install a new hub nut cotter pin.
Removal and installation of wheel cylinders
Raise the rear of the car, put it on stands and remove the wheels. Remove the brake drum as above. Remove brake pads as above. Disconnect the brake hose and plug its hole. Loosen the wheel cylinder mounting bolts and remove the cylinder. Clean parts and check their condition. Replace damaged or worn parts.
Install wheel cylinder. Install and tighten cylinder bolts. Attach the brake hose. Install brake pads and drum.
Remove air from the brake hydraulic listed below.
