To replace the brake pads (Fig. 7-9), lift the front of the vehicle, place it on stands and remove the wheels. Perform the following operations on both sides of the vehicle.

Disconnect the brake pad wear sensor connector. Loosen the lower caliper mounting bolt. Rotate the caliper upward. Remove the brake pads. Clean the brake pad mounting surfaces in the caliper and move the piston as far inside the cylinder as possible. If necessary, remove some of the brake fluid from the reservoir. Check the condition of the brake disc and piston dust cap. Check the presence and correct position of the piston heat shield.

Install new brake pads. Lower the caliper. Tighten the lower caliper mounting bolt. Connect the brake pad wear sensor connector. Install the front wheels. Press the brake pedal several times to set the piston to the working position.

Check and, if necessary, restore the brake fluid level in the reservoir.



VW II brand brake mechanisms



To replace the brake pads (Fig. 7-10), lift the front of the vehicle, place it on stands and remove the front wheels. Perform the following operations on both sides of the vehicle. Completely unscrew the guide pins. Remove the brake caliper. Remove the brake pads. Remove the retaining springs.

Clean the brake pad seats and move the piston as far as possible into the cylinder, removing some of the brake fluid from the reservoir if necessary. Install the retaining springs.

Install new brake pads. Install the brake caliper, screw in and tighten the guide pins. Press the brake pedal several times to set the piston to the working position. Check and, if necessary, restore the brake fluid level in the reservoir. Install the front wheels and lower the car.
