The starting injector is checked on a cold engine.
To check the injection duration:
  • disconnect the connectors of the control pressure regulator and the idle speed stabilization valve;
  • disconnect the starting injector connector;
  • connect a voltmeter to the terminals of the starting injector block;
  • turn on the starter for a short time and record the voltage on the voltmeter, which should be at least 11.5 V;
  • connect the starting injector connector;
  • turn on the starter and check the duration of fuel injection, which should be at a temperature of -10°C: 4.9 s; 0°C: 3.0-7.5 s; 10°C: 2.0-5.8 s; 20°C: 1.0-3.8 sec; 30°C: 0-2.0 sec; 40°C: 0 s;
  • if the injection duration values deviate from the norm, check the thermal time relay and the starting injector. To check the fuel spray cone, disconnect the high-voltage wire from the ignition distributor and connect it to the body ground via an extension cord;
  • disconnect the connector of the thermal time relay and connect pin "2" to the "ground" (green and white wire) (fig. 2-189);
  • remove the starting nozzle from the intake manifold without disconnecting the pads and fuel line from it;
  • place the starting nozzle over a suitable container and turn the engine crankshaft. The nozzle should spray fuel in the shape of a regular cone (fig. 2-190);
  • check the injector for leaks. To do this, wipe the nozzle dry and observe the injector. No fuel should flow out of the nozzle within a minute.
