When tensioning the engine belt, a special wrench must be available to adjust the belt tensioner, as well as a tool to measure the tension.
When putting on a new toothed belt, the alignment marks must be aligned in one line. when tensioning the toothed belt, proceed as follows.
Insert a trunnion wrench into both holes of the idler pulley as shown and turn the pulley in the direction of the arrow to tension the belt.
Place the VW210 tension gauge against the toothed belt and push the gauge knob inwards. The belt is optimally tensioned if the gauge reading is between 13 and 14. Otherwise, readjust the tensioner.
Turn the crankshaft twice and check the tension.
Install the top toothed belt guard, vibration damper and V-belt. Adjust belt tension 15.
If the crankshaft flywheel has been removed, install it on the crankshaft. There is a groove at the end of the crankshaft, and there is a guide protrusion on the inside of the gear hole. Make sure they match perfectly. Lubricate the screw thread with oil and tighten the screw to a torque of 90 Nm. From the end position of the screw, tighten it an additional half turn without using a torque wrench. In this case, the engine must be blocked from turning.
