Dismantling
When removing the front oil sealing ring, it is necessary to dismantle the V-belt, adjusting cover, control belt and belt pulley together with the flywheel. To loosen the crankshaft flywheel bolts, engage fifth gear, apply the handbrake hard, and loosen the bolt with a socket.
A tool should normally be used to remove the front O-ring, however, a tool is also required whose socket head screw is screwed as deep into the crankshaft as possible. Then you can use the removable tool. The dismantling operation is carried out in the same way as described for the camshaft sealing ring.
When removing the rear oil seal ring, remove the gearbox, flywheel and clutch before the ring can be pressed out.
To remove the ring located at the rear end, use the tool shown in fig. or try to gently pry it out with a screwdriver. Do not damage the crankcase while doing this. If the motor is dismantled, unscrew the corresponding flange and remove it together with the seal. After that, knock out the sealing rings from the flange (from inside to outside).
Installation with the engine removed
Lubricate the sealing lip and outer perimeter of the O-ring with grease, and carefully drive it into the flange until the shoulder rests against the outer surface.
Carefully slide the flange with the seal on through the crankshaft, attach it to the cylinder block and center it well. Tighten the screws evenly around.
Mounting with the engine installed
On sale there is a device for tensioning the front sealing ring.
Pass the guide sleeve through the crankshaft trunnion, lubricate the inner and outer sides of the sealing ring with oil and thread the ring through the guide sleeve. Slide the pressure sleeve of the tool through the guide sleeve and tighten the bandage until the o-ring sits. After this, dismantle the tool parts again.
When replacing the rear O-ring, tap it gently with a hammer to center it. Do not damage the sealing lip when doing this. Now use either the 2003/1 compression ring or make a round plate in the center of which there is a hole for locating the end of the crankshaft, and use two screws to fix the appropriate tool in the threaded holes for the clutch pressure plate. By tightening both screws evenly, the oil seal ring can be brought into the correct position.
