Intermediate shaft (VW Golf 3)

To remove the intermediate shaft, you need to remove the engine from the car. The cylinder head can be left mounted.

The flange of the sealing ring is provided with a recirculation hole on the bottom side and must be assembled taking this into account. The flange determines the axial clearance of the shaft, if the clearance exceeds 0.25 mm. the flange must be replaced. The circular section sealing ring holds the flange on the engine side.

Replace the sealing ring on the inside of the flange if it has been unscrewed. To install the sealing ring, first install the shaft. and then put on the sealing ring according to the method described for the front oil seal ring of the crankshaft. When installing, tighten the screws to a tightening torque of 25 Nm.
