When checking the ATF level, it is essential to replace the sealing ring of the ATF level control plug (Fig. 3.69).

Turn off the engine.

At the start of the test, the ATF temperature should not exceed 30°C.

The gearbox must not operate in emergency mode.

The car must be level.

The automatic transmission selector must be set to position "P".

Start the engine.

Raise the car.

Place a tray under the gearbox.

At a temperature of 35°C to 45°C, unscrew the ATF level check plug in the oil pan (Fig. 3.70).

Drain the liquid from the bypass tube (Fig. 3.71).

Tighten the screw plug with a new sealing lip to 15 Nm. This completes the ATF level check.

If ATF does not drip from the hole: ATF needs to be added.

Topping up ATF fluid

With the engine running, screw the oil filler adapter in tightly by hand.

Fill with 1 liter of ATF.

Disconnect the oil filler adapter from the quick release fastener and check if fluid flows out of the hole in the adapter.

If it leaks, no oil top-up is required.

Allow the ATF to drain until individual drops begin to drip.

Tighten the screw plug with a new sealing lip to 15 Nm. This completes the ATF level check.

If after this the ATF fluid does not drip, another liter of fluid needs to be added.

Caution: Insufficient or excessive ATF fluid addition will impair transmission operation.
